Virtual Migrants respond to experiences of asylum seekers and themes of race, migration and globalisation in the multimedia installation “What If I’m Not Real”. This is the result of six individuals led by digital media artists Kuljit “Kooj” Chuhan and Aidan Jolly, plus Tang Lin (Writer), Miselo Kunda-Anaku (photographer), Jilah Bakshayesh (musician), and Hafiza Mohammed (textiles), in an ambitious three-screen video and sound installation.
“Games People Play” is an exhibition in two halves, showing simultaneously at Castlefield Gallery in Manchester and Storey Gallery in Lancaster. It is a collaboration between two artist-led venues in the North West to celebrate the Commonwealth Games 2002 in Manchester. Curated by artist Paul Needham, the exhibition explores the wider significance of games through a range of influences including the psychological, social and environmental. It asks the question “Do the games we play reflect the type of people we are?”
The newly opened, purpose-designed Castlefield Gallery presents the conclusion of five recent commissions of the Variable-D Gallery – the poster and magazine based ‘virtual gallery’ space. The work includes digitally generated images from artists Dean Hughes, Padraig Timoney, Chris Speed, Stewart Home, and Suki Chan & Dinu Li.
